Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII Introduction
"It has been said that everything in the universe is fundamentally composed of energy. What we think of as matter is really nothing more than a certain type of energy. And since energy cannot be created or destroyed but merely transferred, some speculate that living beings never truly die. Their life energy is simply returned to the universe in its simplest form." --- Joe Rybickii & Dido Perez, P.S.X. Magazine

This is where the story of Final Fantasy VII begins. It seems that an evil power company called Shinra, Inc. has found a way to mine this life energy, draining it from the earth, and using it to control the universe. Fortunately, a resistance organization know as AVALANCHE, has vowed to put an end to Shinra's destructive practices. The story focuses on Cloud, an ex-soldier of Shinra, who teams up with AVALANCHE, and along the way, encounters some very mysterious and powerful allies who help him fight against the deadly creatures Shinra has created to protect its empire. You, as the game player, will decide their fate.

Featuring seamless 3D gameplay and animation, Final Fantasy VII contains hundreds of pre-rendered, computer-generated backgrounds and features real-time battles, vast map screens, and a complex and engrossing storyline. Published on three CDs, Final Fantasy VII will be one of the largest and most richly detailed gaming experiences ever created.

Gameplay
For battles Final Fantasy VII uses the Active Time Battle (ATB) system where players need to make quick decisions while their enemies are attacking them, making many battles a difficult struggle. There is a limit of three characters per battle, but to aid the players Square Enix has forged the skill system, which introduces the use of Materia; Orbs placed within your weapons and armor giving you the option to customize characters' abilities, and give them access to magic spells and summons. The game also makes use of the "desperation attacks", known as Limit Breaks in Final Fantasy VII. They are used as a last resort, allowing you to cause mayhem on the battlefield by inflicting massive damage to the enemies using special attacks. The Limit Breaks, like many spells, can also be "upgraded", and as they advance players will be able to use stronger attacks. Final Fantasy VII also introduces animated summonning videos, something that slowly became a standard in the Final Fantasy franchise.

Graphics
The game is Square Enix's first on the PlayStation, and because the company wanted to prove to the world why they decided to release Final Fantasy VII on Sony's console, they invested a lot on the graphics, and it paid off. Back at the day the graphics were a new sight for many fans with the jump to 3-D that made the game more realistic than ever. The game has massive locations to explore, and the playes enjoy a lot of freedom.

Story
One of Final Fantasy VII's stronger points is the excellent storytelling that introduces us to Cloud, the main characetr of the game, in his chase after Midgar's finest soldier, Sephiroth. Play as Cloud and meet up with the most interesting cast of characters ever created, experience an emotional story and let Final Fantasy VII immerse you with lashback sequences and loads of pre-rendered sequences that add a lot to the story.

Learning Curve
Final Fantasy VII is an easy game to pick up and play; Packed with so much to do, players will be lost for days trying to master the game and learn everything about the world and characters.

Music
Final Fantasy VII's music is composed by Nobuo Uematsu, a Final Fantasy legend. The game doesn't fail at this point and offers something for everyone; from the heavy battle music to the simple characters themes.

Replay Value
Final Fantasy VII's main storyline lasts for around 40 hours, however, the addicting story makes you want to play it over and over again, and there are stories about people who already finished the game over 50 times. In addition to the main story there is also a huge amount of side-quests to take. Some of them include the Battle Arena, where you fight your way through many battles, and racing with you very own Chocobo. It takes hours over hours to complete everything, and there are many fans who have dedicated months to try and create the "ultimate save file" for the game.

Summary
Gameplay - Introducing many new ideas.
Graphics - Revolutionary graphics that make use of the PlayStation's power.
Story - An emotional story fit for all gamers.
Learning Curve - Easy game to pick up with a great amount of depth.
Music - Beautiful music that follows you throughout your adventure.
Replay Value - You'll be playing Final Fantasy VII for a while after you discover the big amount of side-quests you can take.
